Sooner Micro Systems (SMS) is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma (the Sooner state). The company was founded in 1981 when Larry J. Poor, company president, wrote the first application for the Northeast Area Vocational School in Afton and Pryor, Oklahoma. That first application was called the Vo-Tech Student Reporting System (VSR). Since that first system was installed, hundreds of schools in many states across the country have implemented student information management systems from SMS.

The early success of the VSR software was a result of it being one of the few vocational technical education specific software packages available and, as a PC-based system, it was the only affordable system for many vocational schools.

In the summer of 2003 a new company was formed named SchoolDESX Technologies, LLC in order to provide growth resources for launching the new SchoolDESX product. SchoolDESX Technologies, LLC acquired the rights and responsibilities previously owned by Sooner Micro Systems. This change created a formidable cutting edge company providing our customers with the most outstanding support and innovative software systems available throughout the educational industry.

The principals of the new company are John Bersin, Chris Vokoun and Larry Poor.  All employees remained the same and most contact information such as toll free telephone numbers and fax numbers did not change.
